Kutztown Uilleann Pipe Club

Uilleann pipes are the Irish form of bagpipes.  This instrument differs from the Great Highland Bagpipe in many ways.  Uilleann pipes are bellows blown rather than mouthblown, reach two full octaves rather than having only nine notes, contain a tenor, a baritone, and a bass drone rather than two tenors and one bass, and have regulators that allow the piper to play distinct notes and chords beyond the notes on the chanter.

The Kutztown Uilleann Pipe Club is a branch of the Kutztown Pipe Band which started in 2023 as a monthly meeting of our band members who have an interest in learning to play uilleann pipes. These meetings are held one Monday each month in Kutztown, directly following the Kutztown Celtic Session practice.

Our current membership consists of four uilleann pipers. We invite anyone with a love of this instrument to join us.  Although we do not offer advanced instruction, all current members of this club can share personal experiences of and suggestions for the toughest part of starting the uilleann pipe journey: acquiring instruments and finding instructors.  Contact us at Laura@kutztownpipeband.com for more information about the Kutztown Uilleann Pipe Club.
